The winter holidays are our favorite time of year to gather friends and family. Whether you’re celebrating all eight days or throwing one special party on one of them – if you’re looking for Hanukkah party planning essentials, we have a few.
HANUKKAH PARTY PLANNING ESSENTIALS
LIST, LIST, LIST!
Holidays are stressful enough, but when you’re planning a party as well there are deadlines, pick-ups, presentation, and more. In short, something is bound to be forgotten. Our tip: make a list and dump all of the things you need to buy and dates for pick-ups and deadlines. Then, set a reminder the day before or the morning of. (Better yet, let us organize the list, remind you, and make orders and pick-ups for you!)
Decorations & Party Supplies
These are the centerpiece of the celebration. Traditional decorations and party supplies will be blue, silver and white. Most party stores will have Hanukkah-themed decorations. If you want to really wow your guests, set up a display of blue and white twinkling lights and maybe even set up a selfie station.
Food
Whether you cater your celebration, cook it all yourself, or make it a potluck, don’t neglect to include traditional fare that people love this time of year. You can’t go wrong with potato latkes, brisket, sufganiyot (donuts), kugel and chocolate gelt.
TABLE SETTING
Whether you prefer a shareable spread or individually served plates, a tasteful place card or beautifully set spread and cutlery will instantly catch your guests’ eye.
MUSIC
No celebration is complete without music to set the mood! Compile a playlist of holiday-themed songs or choose one of the many online. Spotify or YouTube have a superb selection.
COMFORT
Guest towels, a full stock of drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), toiletries and personal care (for overnight guests), and even some seasonal scents will make your guests feel welcome and at ease in a space that’s not their own.
Theme
Make your celebration memorable by assigning a theme. It could be a generous theme of giving back, where each guest brings a food pantry donation, or a fun theme such as an ugly sweater party!
