We LOVE Fourth of July in Boston. If Memorial Day is the unofficial start to the summer, then July 4th is when we all scream, “Summer is here!!!” With so many exciting Fourth of July events in Boston, here’s our insider guide to making the best of the holiday.
BOSTON HARBORFEST
Boston Harborfest is a family-friendly event is the country’s largest Fourth of July festival with hundreds of activities over Independence Day weekend at Boston’s most iconic landmarks. Activities include the annual opening ceremony at Faneuil Hall, historical reenactments, Freedom Trail walks, boat tours, and live entertainment. This is our favorite summer event in the city!
OUTDOOR DINING

Our team of personal assistants have the list of the best roof decks and patios in Boston. (Hosting your own get together? Check out our planning guide.)
FIREWORKS!!!!
The best show in town is the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. Head straight over to the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell early to grab a spot. The concert and fireworks show is a highlight of the celebrations, featuring performances by the Boston Pops Orchestra and special guests.
Other viewing locations – If large crowds aren’t your thing, try these alternate viewing locations:
- Museum of Science: They have a whole evening’s worth of activities ending with fireworks viewing from its rooftop.
- Party Cruise: Why view the fireworks from land when you could be sailing on the open water? Various cruise companies offer special Fourth of July fireworks cruises.
- Roof Deck Party: Do you or one of your friends have a roof deck within viewing distance of the fireworks? Throw a party and get help with the details!
If you want to venture outside of the city for fireworks displays, here are a few other local options:
- Cambridge: View fireworks from the Charles River for a different perspective.
- Quincy: Celebrate at Pageant Field with music, food, and fireworks.
- Lexington: Enjoy the town’s festivities with a full day of events, ending with a fireworks display.
