Home Renovation Project Management: Key Steps to Plan, Design, and Stay on Track

Home renovation projects are exciting. The design process is fun. And the end products are always something to eagerly anticipate. What’s not always the most fun – managing these projects. There are a lot of moving pieces and it can often feel overwhelming when you already have so many other facets of your life to manage.

Here are some of the steps involved in home renovation projects:

  • What to Renovate? Entire home? Just a room? Putting on an addition?
  • Design Process? Is this something that you can DIY or do you want to hire a professional design firm?
  • Contractor? Your general contractor is perhaps the most important decision you’ll make. Make sure to hire one that has a good reputation and experience executing projects like yours.
  • Project Manager? A project manager takes the stress of making sure all the boxes get checked off from you. This is especially helpful if you are not available to be on-site during the project.
  • Temporary Housing? Depending on the scale of the renovation project, and your ability to
tolerate noise, you may need to relocate during your home renovation project. We advise
finding a rental with a flexible end date as renovation projects always take longer than expected.
