Family on Beach in Water

Things To Do With Kids This Summer on Cape Cod

Some of the best childhood memories are made on Cape Cod, and while the beach is one of the most obvious family-friendly activities to delight the kids, here are some other fun experiences to add to your itinerary:

The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens

Sandwich, MA

Heritage Museums is a one-stop-shop for everyone in the family. Visit their Hidden Hollow garden for kids aged two to ten years old which features a variety of play areas and monthly themes providing a stimulating and beautiful outdoor setting for discovery, learning and play. Their Adventure Park is suitable for children from seven years old to adult with roughly 60 tree-top platforms connected by bridges, ladders, zip lines and other crossings designed for all ability levels.

Guided Kayak Tour of the Nauset Marsh

Eastham, MA

Perfect for beginner paddlers and families, this three-hour guided tour during low tide will unveil a diverse ecosystem of aquatic and shoreline animals. During the break, there is ample time to search for low-tide treasures and take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean.

Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre

Wellfleet, MA

Enjoy a round of mini golf, an ice cream cone, and a movie under the night sky at this classic drive-in theatre from 1957. It’s the last of its kind on Cape Cod, and one of about 300 left in the country. Watch from your car or bring lawn chairs and bug spray to enjoy the show.

Family Sailing Private Lessons

Harwich, MA

Pleasant Bay Community Boating offers Simply Sail experiences for families in both Flying Scots (up to four guests) and Catboats (up to three guests) from June through August. Enjoy an afternoon or evening private lesson with one of their instructors to brush up on your skills, learn the basics, and take a leisurely cruise. All sailors must be six years of age or older.

Pirate Adventures

Hyannis, MA

Adults may actually be more excited about this themed adventure sail into Hyannis Harbor than the kids. Once aboard this working pirate ship, every child and adult with an inner child will be transformed into an official member of the crew, hoisting flags, blasting water cannons, and reading maps. Best suited for kids ages three to ten years old.

Wicked Waves Cape Cod

West Yarmouth, MA

The newly expanded Wicked Waves Cape Cod has a huge selection of rides for kids of all ages, including the 600-foot Roaming River, Flow Rider stand-up surfing machine, and something called the Boomerang Blaster which promises to send riders on a journey of ups-and-downs on its enormous wings before dropping them three stories in a tube that plunges into a pool.

Bike Trails Galore

Biking the Cape is just as much a right of passage as going to the beach as a kid. Make a day trip of it or take the scenic route to the beach. Most bike rental shops offer multi-day rentals, delivery, and pickup services.
