Fall-season

Fun Fall Activities in Boston

October starts this Friday, and the cooler weather and changing of leaves already seems to be underway.  Each weekend of October, there will be a plethora of fun activities all around the city. Here are some of the Simplified team’s favorites that are fun for the whole family:

Go hiking!

One of the best ways to view the gorgeous foliage and to soak in the cool weather this October is to find a hiking path. One of our favorites is the Blue Hills Reservation. Located right outside of the city, it is 7,000 acres with over 100 miles of hiking trails. There are also gorgeous views of the city skyline. There are many more trails to choose from all across the city as well. Going a quick hike (or a long one depending on how experienced you are!), is a perfect way to take in the New England fall.

Apple Picking

Apple picking is an essential part of the fall nowadays, and it has become a tradition for many families. One of our favorite spots is just north of the city in Peabody, MA at Brooksby Farm. On top of apple picking, the farm has barnyard animals and fall hayrides to offer, which make this a perfect spot for the whole family. There is also a farm store and bakery where you can find a delicious Fall staple: apple cider doughnuts! Brooksby Farm is a perfect spot to find fresh apples and soak in the fall ambiance, but almost anywhere you find in Massachusetts will get you in the fall mood with delicious apples.

Rent a Cozy cabin

Want to get away from the city for a bit? There is a wealth of cozy cabins spread all across New England, which will give you picturesque views of the countryside. All of these cabins are available to rent via Airbnb. Whether the cabin is in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, or down in the Berkshires, renting a cabin this fall will be a perfect opportunity to get away from it all and take in the New England fall before the Winter comes.

Visit a Historic Graveyard

If you are looking for something a bit spooky and you also have an inclination for the historic – visit one  of the historic graveyards throughout the city. One of our favorites is the King’s Chapel Burying Ground, located in downtown. This graveyard is Boston’s earliest resting ground, as it was established in 1630. The first governor of Massachusetts, John Winthrop, is currently resting there. With so much history in the city, you can make an entire day of touring these graveyards.

With such a wealth of activities in the city and throughout New England, it can be difficult to plan out what to do, when to do it, and how you’ll get there.
